The Hummer Knowledge Base volt and volt Sytems: Two 12v batteries won’t give you 24v. Your Hummer already has 2 12v batteries in it and it’s still a 12v system right? You are correct, two batteries can provide both 24 Volts nominal , or 12 Volts nominal , depending on how they are wired. If the positive terminals are connected together same for the negative terminals, which are connected to ground, chassis, in modern vehicles , the system is a 12 Volt system. If one battery has its positive terminal connected to the negative terminal on the other, it is a 24 Volt system.

Rolls batteries www. It’s not good for them to sit discharged. Proper care will significantly improve the battery life. Failure to recharge lead-acid batteries within hours is the leading cause of premature battery failure. A battery selector switch as applied in a bay or flats boat is a VERY useful tool that assures redundancy as well as “peace of mind” for the vessel’s owner. A high quality battery selector switch should have a sufficient capacity power rating to safely handle the 12vdc electrical power required.
This switch MUST also have “bridged” internally sealed contacts allowing it to safely be switched from one battery to both batteries then to the second battery without any interruption of supplied 12vdc power. The Blue Sea brand is my favorite based on personal experience. Quest and Cole Hersee also offer quality selector switches. This set up utilizes both a 12 vdc system for general cranking and accessory use as well as a 24 vdc system for the 80 Minn Kota trolling motor.

There are three types of batteries for your trolling motor. Wet-Cell Batteries They are also known as deep cell marine batteries. They are relatively inexpensive and, are tough enough to handle constant drains and recharges.
How can I keep my anchor from hanging up and getting stuck on the rocks? o For a danforth style anchor, drill a hole in the opposite end of the shaft where you should connect the chain. Not in the shaft, but in one of the tabs on the end. Connect the chain to this hole with a shackle.

There are many components present in the battery for trolling motor that together make a whole unit. Mainly, there are three components of the battery: Battery works on the principle that negative ions want to attain positivity by going to positive ions.

Many of us do padlock the trailer hitch lever down so it can not be disconnected from the ball. This can also be a good thing to get used to doing as it is a reminder to not forget to snap the lever down onto the ball. But what about securing the hitch extension into the bumper’s receiver? If you just use the original spring snap clip to hold the pin in place, it is rather easy to pull the pin, slide the trailer rearward enough to get the extension out of the receiver and then transfer the extension to a waiting vehicle that has the same commonly used receiver.
To prevent this, I have drilled my extension pin out enough to also accept a padlock bail, as shown in the photo below on the right. It is nice to purchase 2 or 3 padlocks using the same key for this situation. You do need to remove the extension padlock occasionally and clean the padlock up so it will function when needed. I have found that if you don’t, the lock may become hard to unlock. Therefore it may be prudent to smear some Vaseline around where the bail enters the base to keep out water which turns metal into rust and over the key slot to keep the dust from getting inside the tumbler.
For those of you who may wonder what the upper license plate frame says, it is “Crime Control” on top, and the bottom as seen, “Not Gun Control”. Padlock securing the extension to the receiver Don’t overlook padlocking your spare tire to the trailer as shown below. On this unit, the padlock hole end needed to be bent down to give enough to snap a standard shank length padlock lock into.

Lowell ; Updated April 12, One of the best upgrades to small fishing boats is replacing the volt trolling motor with a more powerful volt model. In addition to producing more thrust, this upgrade will also let you spend more time on the water, as the combination of two trolling motor batteries will last much longer before charging is required. Determine a suitable location for the battery tray for the added battery. If possible, try to mount the tray where the weight of the two batteries is evenly distributed side to side in the boat.

How do you wire 2 batteries together to make 24 volts? Do you mean 2 x 12 volt batteries? Wire 2nd battery’s – to the other side of the load. Battery 1 Positive to Battery 2 Positive and Battery 1 Negative to Battery 2 Negative is Parallel wiring, retaining the voltage rating of either one of the batteries. WARNING It is not a good idea to wire two batteries which have different voltage ratings in parallel because the one with the higher voltage will immediately send current to the other one with the lower voltage to try to make their voltages both the same.
The very high current which will flow between the two batteries is likely to make the batteries get very hot. Bat 1 Positive to Load, and Bat 1 Negative to Bat 2 Positive, then Bat 2 Negative to the other side of the Load is Series wiring and the total voltage of the combined batteries is the sum of both individual voltage ratings.
So, assuming you want to get 24 volts out of two similar batteries, you could wire two 12 volt batteries in series.

I know very little about electronics – just enough to get me in trouble I have a need for a small wireless video camera at our land in the middle of the woods no electricity. I’ve found a couple of “micro camera” that will run off a standard 9 volt battery, but they only last about 10 hours before the little battery runs out of juice. Is there a way I can run that camera off a volt car battery?
I was thinking that the car battery might last a couple of weeks before it needs recharging.
This is not a volt meter, it is a battery indicator — like the one in a cellphone, or a laptop. A 12V battery may run from V to V, and that may correspond to % to 0 charge.
Each one has different features, some of a benefit over others. The reason I got the Cannons was I knew a salesman who gave me a good deal on them. After I had a chance to see how the Scotty electrics were used by a Alaskan salmon guide, when I sold that boat, I gave the guy a good deal on the whole package. I would not want a manual version where the handle rotated as the line was being let out. This can be an arm breaker. If you take it to a repair center for any problem, like even a uneven drag, most time they will update it to the newest type of parts for no cost..
They have a 2 way switch on the upper arm control box. This box has a slot that the wire is run thru. It has a kind of pivoting door that is controlled by the switch on the top. However if you want to have it come in automatically, you rotate the outer ring. This also sets the gate to where the “buttons” you have previously set on the wire as your stop position, a location that when they pass thru this gate, the switch is tripped off. It is recommended that you put one of each color on right next to each other.
Scotty is one brand that will retrieve a 15 ball from deeper depths. You want to set these stops so that the ball is not pulled all the way up.

You only really need to select a 24 volt option if the motor is a long way from the batteries. Where the voltage drop in the wires can leave the motor demanding more power than the 12 volts can supply, and overloading the circuit. In which event the leads would become dangerously hot. Or if a large amount of continuous power is required.
For the 12v setup, the engine will almost certainly be equipped to supply a charge already, via its alternator – I’ve indicated the wiring for this on the 12v diagram – without you making any changes or moving the batteries around at regular intervals. The starter battery for the engine can be wired in additional to the two in the above 12v diagram, but it is quite important to ensure it supplies only the engine’s starter, not the trolling motor when that is running.

Posted by Matt Alpert January 21, Here are some tips for figuring out how to choose a trolling motor, which is crucial to the success of any boating angler. Fishing by boat on a lake or river requires a quiet approach. It can be hard not to scare off fish when you come thundering into a fishing hole with your loud gas powered onboard motor that’s spouting smoke and stirring up water.
Trolling motors are electric and much quieter than gas powered motors. And they are downright handy for the fishing method in their namesake, trolling. Choosing the ideal trolling motor can be tricky. There’s a lot to choose from, and you need to pick the right motor for the size and type of your craft. A lot of fishermen will tell you to buy the biggest trolling motor you can, but there’s more of a science to it.
Follow this guide to learn how to choose the best trolling motor for you. We’ll look at trolling motors based on four aspects: Thrust Thrust is the measure of how much the motor propels the boat through water.
How to Hook Up a 24 Volt Trolling Motor
If this happens, you can still usually tell which motor it is by looking at the 25 cent size soft plug in the upper rear RH side of the block. The model and year are stamped in this soft plug also but probably only up to in a code we can relate to. It is interesting to also note that the 15 hp uses the same block as the 9. I have heard from more than one person that their plug had numbers that do not match any of the codes, so this kind of backs up the idea of a change after the date, as the factory changed things as time went on.

How do i hook up 24 volt trolling motor to the batteries
The Blue Seas Add-A-Battery switch is intended to connect two volt batteries together, not to connect a volt battery to a volt series string of two volt batteries. I’m doing some research on this. Tom posted The drawback with this approach is only two of the batteries will get charged by the motor. The third battery is never charged. See Charging Three Batteries In Separated 12 and volt Systems for the links to the only two products I could find that accomplish this.
But like I said, I’m not going to hook up my cranking battery in series with a battery to troll with. That’s the only way I’d be able to get 24 volts back there. I have room for two batteries back there, not three. One of those spots is already reserved for my cranking battery. If I could find somewhere else to put them that would be great. However, the places that I fish don’t have a whole lot of current, which is why I would feel that the 55 would be fine and the 70 would be overkill.
Again, the other boats mentioned are much bigger than mine. I don’t take it out to Beaufort anymore because I’m just not going to pay the gas bill to get it out there. I’ll take the kayak out there instead, I’ll use have the gas with that in the bed of the truck instead of towing the boat. I have room for two 24’s, but right now I think my only option if I want the batteries in the battery compartment is to go with a 12 volt trolling motor.
I appreciate the suggestions from everyone and I wish I could go bigger, I just don’t think that I can with my boats set up.
